Your School Loan...
The best for the brightest !

Your school loan is a necessary part of education planning. It remains the most popular way to pay off large college bills and education related expenses.

Not everyone has a rich Uncle.

While it might seem like a simple process to pick and choose a loan to suit your needs, that isn't always the case.

Learning about different loans and some of their options can help you decide which one is the best fit for your circumstance.

Thinking ahead a bit... maybe a school theme promotion about a school loan and supporting school spirit concepts, wouldn't be a bad idea for many schools.

Apply For Student Loan

Reality is... a loan must be repaid after you or any student completes school. It's important to recognize this fact before you even begin searching for a loan.

In some cases, you may have a few years to pay off the loan, or in the case of some government loans, you can have at least ten years.

Though this sounds like a long time, it is something that you need to consider as you devise your payback plans and consider student aid alternatives.

This is money that you will need to pay back, often with interest.

Federal Loan Options You Can Use

The federal government can be one of the best places to consider for a school loan. With an extensive array of options, the government can give students a large chunk of money through the Stafford Program.

This loan can cover the costs of tuition and fees, as well as some of the costs of living in a dorm or off campus.

These loans are broken down into subsidized and unsubsidized, which allows you to take on multiple loans at the same time and get the full amount that may be needed to pay for school.

Student Aid   |   College Search

You can apply for these kinds of loans by filling out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form electronically, via the internet or in paper format.

All students applying for financial aid will need to complete this form. The amount of loan money offered will be based on your financial status and your degree objectives.

At most schools, programs are in place to help students learn more about these forms, when they should be submitted, payback options and the general loan amount that can be expected.

More Loan Opportunities

If the federal government's rules don't apply to you,  there are other options. You may want to consider a personal loan from a bank or credit union. In some cases other family members may help or have access to home equity. Most options will allow you to choose the amount of money you want, as well as lock in a favorable interest rate in many cases.

When you are unable to lock in a favorable interest rate, keep your eye on the market. You will want to try refinancing your loan as interest rates go down.

This refinance loan provision will lump all of your loan amounts into one payment, with a reduced interest rate that helps you make a lower monthly payment.

A school loan is a necessity in today's times of high college costs and longer education terms. But with the many student loan options you have, it's easy to see how you can make the system work for you and for your promising students.
